WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2024: 3 Things We Hated and 3 Things We Loved
Welcome to Wrestling Inc.’s review of WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2024! This year’s event took a turn back to being a PLE, after not holding that distinction last year for reasons unknown. Unfortunately, the show left us with mixed feelings—there were moments we appreciated, though the positives were fewer than usual. As for the things we disliked… well, let’s just say there was no shortage of those.
In this review, we’ll be covering almost everything on the five-match card: from Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer’s tag team victory, to the intense Ambulance Match, the Gauntlet Match, and the show’s main event. One exception, however, is Tony D’Angelo’s win over Oba Femi. While it was solid, it wasn’t particularly remarkable—check out our Halloween Havoc results page for more on that bout. Now, let’s dive into the tricks (things we hated) and treats (things we loved) of Halloween Havoc 2024!
Loved: Regal’s Partnership with King (and Dempsey) Has Great Potential
With a Heritage Cup match scheduled for next week’s NXT, Lexis King struggled to find someone to corner him—until Halloween Havoc saw the surprise return of William Regal. Regal offered to accompany King in his upcoming match against Charlie Dempsey, Regal’s son. Recently, King has leaned more into his familial legacy, openly referencing his late father, Brian Pillman. This storyline could mark a turning point, with Regal guiding King back toward his roots as Brian Pillman Jr.
Since rejoining WWE in January, Regal’s on-screen appearances have been rare but impactful. He has popped up to announce Dempsey’s tour with All Japan Pro Wrestling, appoint Ava as NXT General Manager, and congratulate Dempsey for his Heritage Cup win at Roadblock. His latest appearance, assisting King, seems poised to spark interesting developments for both King and Dempsey.
Involving Regal in the Heritage Cup storyline is a refreshing twist, as that title has felt somewhat underwhelming since its introduction. But using the story to influence the direction of two promising talents—Dempsey and King—adds an extra layer of intrigue. Regal’s role could set up character shifts, heel turns, or even double-crosses, making it feel like anything is possible. Both King and Dempsey have needed more momentum, and who better to provide that than “The Gentleman Villain” himself?
