AEW Star Chris Jericho Explains Why He No Longer Lifts Weights

Chris Jericho’s wrestling career spans nearly 35 years, marked by his incredible ability to evolve both in and out of the ring. His latest transformation isn’t just about character changes but also about how he trains and stays in shape as he ages.

In a conversation on The Adam Carolla Show, Jericho discussed how his approach to fitness has evolved over time. Gone are the days of heavy weightlifting, which he now avoids to protect his joints. Instead, Jericho focuses on kickboxing as a primary workout.

“At this stage, it’s more about diet and maintaining fitness,” Jericho shared. “I don’t lift weights anymore because my joints can’t handle it. Kickboxing gives me a great cardio workout and helps with form and muscle definition.”

Jericho emphasized that intense weight training can become counterproductive as athletes age, straining joints and ligaments unnecessarily. Despite avoiding heavy lifting, the wrestling veteran stays mindful of his physical condition, recognizing the physical demands of wrestling.

“Wrestling is still a contact sport,” he noted. “Even when you’re cautious, injuries can happen, so it’s important to be in the best shape possible and stay durable.”

Jericho’s shift in focus highlights the importance of adjusting training routines with age to maintain longevity, both in sports and everyday life.
